Al Pacino
Al Pacino born as Alfredo James Pacino on April 25th, 1940 in East Harlem, Manhattan is a wonderful American actor who won numerous awards including Academy Awards, Golden Globe, BAFTA and EMMY for his awesome performances in several movies.
Al Pacino was born to Italian-American parents Rose Gerardi and Salvatore Alfred Pacino. Soon after his parents got divorced Al Pacino went to live with his mother at his maternal grandparents in South Bronx. Al Pacino studied at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts. At the age of twenty-six, Al Pacino took acting lessons from legendary acting coach Lee Strasberg, who was also cast in a film "The Godfather II" along with Al Pacino.
Al Pacino made his acting debut with a small television role in N.Y.P.D. in 1968 and made his movie debut in 1969 with "Me, Natalie" and followed it up with "The Panic in Needle Park" in 1971. Three years later his biggest moment came with "The Godfather". Many celebrated actors like Robert Redford, Warren Beatty and Robert De Niro vied for the role. But director Francis Ford Coppola chose relatively unknown actor Al Pacino. Al Pacino never letting down his director's faith in him gave a stunning performance as Michael Corleone that made him a nominee for Oscar and several other awards.
He acted in its sequel known as "The Godfather" trilogy. His wonderful performance as Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in "Scent of a Woman" won him an Oscar award. His seven other memorable roles that earned him Oscar nominations include besides "The Godfather" I and II; Officer Frank Serpico in "Serpico"; Sonny Wortzik in "Dog Day Afternoon"; Arthur Kirkland in "...And Justice for All"; Big Boy Caprice in "Dick Tracy"; and Ricky Roma in "Glengarry Glen Ross".
In all Al Pacino has acted in over 40 movies giving highly acclaimed performances. In recognition of his acting talents on October 20th, 2006 the American Film Institute named Al Pacino the recipient of the 35th AFI Life Achievement Award. Despite his fame as a movie actor, Al Pacino continued to embrace the stage and appeared in many stage plays.
Al Pacino was never married, but he has three children. His had his first daughter Julie Marie, born 1989 with acting coach Jan Tarrant and twins Anton James and Olivia Rose born 2001 with ex-girlfriend Beverly D'Angelo who he dated from 1997 to 2001.
